There was an intense atmosphere that packed Howell Field on friday night. The Varsity Football Team took on rival Chagrin Falls. Both teams went in 7-0. The game started off with a kick off the the Tigers, where the Wolverines stopped them soon after the kick. A West G personal foul on a Chagrin Falls punt return set up the Tigers' first score. They drove 22 yards and Chagrins quarterback Chris Trinetti threw a 10-yard pass to receiver David Powers to make it 7-0. With 43 seconds before the half West G tied it with an option pass from Kevin Sonnie to Mike Pukay who stood alone in the end zone to tie it up 7-7. The Tigers stopped West G twice on fourth downs inside the 25-yard line, and prevented first downs twice on fake-punt attempts near the 50 yard line. The second was a scramble play that resulted in a 16-yard loss and put Chagrin on the West G's 37 yard line. A few plays later Chagrin scored with a 2 yard run from Bobby Winkleman with 6:20 left in the game to take the lead, 14-7. West G's triple-option offense couldn't pull out another touchdown despite playing a very hard game. The Varsity Team will play Kenston next week.
